The Virtual Sheet Music internal search engine helps you find your requested item within our catalog. It is important to understand how it works in order to easily locate your preferred titles.
The Simple Search Box:
You can use the Simple Search Box (located at the top of each page) to easily find a particular word contained in our catalog. This could be the name of a composer, instrument, composition title, or a fragment of any of these.
For example, if you want to find compositions by Beethoven, type the word "Beethoven" in the Search box, then click on the 'Search' Button. The search engine will display available compositions by Beethoven.
If you don't know how to spell a composer's entire last name, try the first few letters, for example, "Beeth" for "Beethoven."
Typing the single keyword "piano" in the Search box will display findings for both "piano solo" and "violin & piano". Typing the two-word phrase "piano solo" will narrow the results displayed to just piano solo compositions.
The Advanced Search Box:
The Advanced Search Box lets you make a better and filtered search, yet is also simple to use. Just fill in as many fields as possible, and then click the 'Start Search' button. You don't need to complete every field to begin searching, but filling in more fields will yield better results. The last name of the composer, part of the composition title, and instrument are usually enough information for a successful search.
For example, if you are looking for compositions by "Mozart" for "piano solo" at an "easy" skill level, just enter these keywords:
- Mozart - as Composer
- piano solo - as Instrument
- EASY - as Skill Level
The search engine will display all the compositions in our catalog by W.A. Mozart for piano solo at the easy skill level.
You can experiment with various keyword combinations in order to achieve a more focused and delimited result.
Finally, with the 'Release Date' field you can narrow your search to items added to our catalog since a given date. For example, if you are looking for compositions for "violin & piano" published since "1 month ago", just enter the following keywords:
- violin and piano - as Instrument
- 1 month ago - as Release Date
The search engine will display all violin and piano compositions in our catalog published within the past month.
