So, have you noticed that exceptional performers, when faced with external distractions, possess an amazing ability to continue and maintain a high level of performance? I think it's clear that they have achieved this level of control through years of rigorous training. But, has their training only been about refining their technical skills? Well, I believe that part of that training has been about developing the mental resilience necessary to maintain their focus and composure under pressure, allowing them to stay in the zone. You know, that place where you completely focus on what you're trying to accomplish.

How can you get into this zone? Well, one way is through what I call mind tuning.

Since playing can evoke a range of emotions from joy and exhilaration to frustration and anxiety, mind tuning helps us learn to regulate these emotions and channel them into our performances.

So, here are some ways to practice mind tuning and get yourself into the zone.

One way is to rehearse performances in your mind. By this, I mean visualizing solutions to challenges or setbacks that could occur, allowing you to keep moving forward.

Another way is to work on your breathing.

For example, learning how to deep breathe can help calm your mind, which can help with your anxiety before going on stage.

But you know what? Breathing while you're playing is probably a good idea too.

What about establishing a routine to do before you walk out on stage? For example, fixating your eyes on something like the back of a hall as you walk out could send a signal to your mind that now is the time to focus.

Let's see, what else might work? Well, what about keeping a journal about your experiences and emotions while performing? This might help you gain another perspective to be able to better process what's been happening during your performances.

Alright then, these are some of my mind tuning ways to help you get into the zone and take your performances to that next level.

But have you experienced other ways? If you have and want to share, write them in the comments below.
