Back in the early 70's the Blair School was located in a converted house. It was sort of like one of the southern mansions you see in a movie. Up the steps on the 2nd floor there was a hallway with a bench and my office was to the right. So as I often did I was practicing in my studio and decided to take a break. As I was opening my door I overheard 2 boys sitting on the bench talking and they said: "Can you believe it! He sounds so bad. And he's one of the teachers!" I quietly closed my door so that they couldn't see me and chuckled, but thought what do they think practicing is? So I got a piece of paper and made a note and scotch taped it to my door. It read: "If you sound good when you practice somethings wrong"
