I was in Madame Longy's ear training class my first year at Juilliard but missed the first three classes. When I finally showed up she was giving a test that we graded ourselves and was giving the answers but I was looking out the window so she asked me, "Monsieur Fitzpatrick, aren't you going to grade your test?," I said, "No, its all right." And with that answer she was all over me for the rest of the year. The next year I switched to Mary Anthony Cox, who with her sweet Southern accent terrorized her classes because if you messed up she would raise that sweet southern voice of hers. That year I again missed so many classes, but ended up getting an A on the final exam. We worked it out but I was really a problem child.
